There were to be several new walkways or platforms at Shildon Railway Museum, all over one hundred metres long, which were formed between, soon to be new railway lines, these lines would house the train exhibits. The concrete was poured in long sections by Rainton Construction, and all the sections were powerfloated to a low dull finish. This powerfloat finish is critical if a Rustic / Industrial finish is required. Once the surface of the concrete has cured, normally a minimum of 28 days the diamond polishing process can begin. The diamond polishing process starts with a medium grit diamond polishing pad which hones the floor to remove any slight surface roughness, while micro-grinding to remove a minimal of material. The floor then undergoes an impregnating chemical treatment, to make the surface of the concrete extremely hard wearing. The floor is then polished through subsequent finer diamond grit stages to the desired gloss level. As well as being aesthetically pleasing, the floor would now give many years of surface with a basic cleaning regime. The floor is then sealed and burnished to help guard against staining and give the floor a final lustre.
