A pair of newbuild semi-detached houses being built in a rural Leicestershire location. We were asked to install and polish concrete floors to the whole of the ground floor in both properties by a repeat property developer customer. Both floor areas were approx. 360 m².
The clients for both dwellings wanted a Rustic / Industrial polished concrete floor. Please see below for more details of the project….
The new-build residential properties were high-end developments. The ground works, UFH and reenforcing mesh were all installed by the property developer. JLR Contracts then proceeded to pour the concrete over the UFH pipework at a depth of 100mm. The concrete was finished to a smooth dull powerfloat finish. Crack inducement joints were cut into the floor as required, to further help reduce the risk of cracking, which would also be filled and polished when the polishing process was undertaken. The concrete was allowed to cure for a minimum of 28 days. JLR Contracts then returned to carry out all the polishing works that were required, to produce a Rustic / Industrial finish.
The joints were firstly filled with a semi-flexible filler and allowed to cure. A light diamond micro grind was then carried out to remove any slight surface imperfections. The floor was then chemically densified to create an extremely hard-wearing surface. The diamond polishing stages were then carried out, starting from a low polishing grit size through subsequent finer grit polishing stages until the required gloss level was reached. The polished concrete floor was then sealed and burnished, to give help guard against staining and give a final lustre. The resulting polished concrete floor will give years of service with a minimal basic cleaning routine.
