The client was converting an existing stone farm building to a holiday let flat. The existing farm building went under a full conversion and required new concrete floors throughout the property. The client required the concrete floors polished to a full aggregate medium gloss premium finish.

The client was converting an existing stone farm building to a granny flat. The customer carried out the ground and insulation works etc before installing UFH. JLR Contracts then proceeded to pour the concrete over the UFH pipework at a depth of 100mm. The concrete was finished to a smooth bull-float finish. Two colours were required so an integral dark grey dye was added to the main mix, to give the much darker colour required.
The concrete chosen, was a local 20mm aggregate blended concrete mix. The concrete was then allowed to cure for a minimum of 28 days. We then returned to carry out all the works required to produce a full aggregate premium medium gloss polished concrete finish. We firstly carried out a heavy grind to remove several mm of concrete from the surface, and to fully expose the aggregate. A medium grind was then carried out to reduce the heavy grind marks and smooth the floor further.
A grouting stage then takes place which fills in all the small pit holes, small pull outs and imperfections etc. The floor is then chemically densified to create an extremely hard-wearing surface. Diamond polishing stages were then carried out, starting from a low polishing grit size through subsequent finer grit polishing stages until the required medium gloss level was reached. The polished concrete floor was then sealed and burnished, to help guard against staining and give a final lustre. The resulting, premium medium gloss polished concrete floor, will give years of service with a minimal basic cleaning routine.
