The residential upgrade and extension required a brand-new floor to be installed, as it is critical for a high quality powerfloat finish to produce a quality Rustic / Industrial floor. The ground works, UFH and reenforcing mesh were all installed by the main contractor. JLR Contracts then proceeded to pour the concrete over the UFH pipework at a depth of 100mm. The concrete was finished to a smooth dull powerfloat finish. Crack inducement joints were cut into the floor as required, to further help reduce the risk of cracking, which would also be filled and polished when the polishing process was undertaken. The concrete was allowed to cure for a minimum of 28 days. JLR Contracts then returned to carry out all the polishing works that were required, to produce a Rustic / Industrial finish. The joints were firstly filled with a semi-flexible filler and allowed to cure. A light diamond micro grind was then carried out to remove any slight surface imperfections. The floor was then chemically densified to create an extremely hard-wearing surface. The diamond polishing stages were then carried out, starting from a low polishing grit size through subsequent finer grit polishing stages until the required gloss level was reached. The polished concrete floor was then sealed and burnished, to give help guard against staining and give a final lustre. The resulting polished concrete floor will give years of service with a minimal basic cleaning routine.
